About me

Hello! (Bonjour à tous!)

I'm Alisha, a second year student at the University of Exeter studying English and French.

I’m very passionate about my subjects. Literature and languages provide a wealth of benefits and are endlessly changing and interesting topics. As well as transferrable skills they are invaluable in developing open minded approaches to other cultural and historical perspectives as well as communication, which is imperative in an increasingly global society.

As well as studying, I am involved in a number of societies at university. I organise social events for a dance fitness society, and am active in the English and French societies in order to constantly expand, improve and support my studies.

At 21, I’ve now been taking exams for nearly 10 years. In my experience, study and exam skills are an exercise in dedication, commitment and practice. I would be privileged to use my experience and subject knowledge in order to help others reach their potential in any way I can, as I understand the challenges students can face during such an overwhelming time in their lives. I think setting small and achievable goals that add up cumulatively to the final product of the tasks you wish to complete is the way to keep motivated and make tasks that seem daunting more manageable: I can help with this and various other tips to help make your life a little easier!

About my sessions

Initially I would like to find out certain information to allow me to tailor the sessions to the student, such as: exam board, specification, areas for improvement, and goals.

I want to encourage an approachable atmosphere in which tutees feel they can ask for clarification and any help they may require to reach their full potential. There is no such thing as a stupid question!

In the sessions themselves I’ll aim to set small and achievable goals for the student that we can work through together. I will integrate tasks to assess and evaluate the student’s progress and understanding so we can both feel comfortable moving forward. I’ll aim to tailor the tasks to the preferred learning methods of the student; incorporating as much variety and engagement as possible to motivate the student and make sessions enjoyable.

As French and English are predominantly skill-based subjects, I can help providing the tools for more effective studying and engagement. Such as:

English: essay writing skills, study skills, revision techniques, exam practice, how to study a text, the study of specific texts, proof reading, and coursework help.

French: essay writing skills, study skills, revision techniques, exam practice, learning grammar, conversation practice, listening and reading comprehension skills, vocab learning, and proofreading.
