About me

I'm a third year studying Russian and Linguistics at the University of Oxford. Most peoples reaction to this is: 'Wow that's an interesting subject!', and I have to say, I completely agree! I am incredibly passionate about my subject, and about learning in general. Indeed, at the age of 13 I finished being an attendee of Kumon, and at the age of 16 I became a tutor of Maths and English at my local centre. In sixth form I worked at James Allen's Preparatory School where I ran a Russian Club, I was also employed by several SW London parents to tutor their children for Maths GCSE (references available), which I still do to this day. I am enthusiastic, diligent and patient. Due to my vast experience of both one on one tutoring, through my own lessons and the tutorial system that I have at my university, and class-based teaching, I believe that I am able to cater to everyone's needs, and tailor the tutorials to the specific requirements of the student. I am also DBS checked.

About my sessions

I will aim to have a chat with the student/parent/guardian prior to the initial tutorial, so that we can discuss what exactly they would like to gain from the sessions, and which approach they would like to take. I will aim to have a chat with the student/parent/guardian prior to the initial tutorial, so that we can discuss what exactly they would like to gain from the sessions, and which approach they would like to take. In the past, I have helped students by just sitting with them and answering their questions whilst we do a past paper, on some occasions we just go through general homework queries and difficulties that they encountered in class that week, or we can also work our way through the syllabus, amongst other approaches.

I believe that in order for students to achieve their maximum potential, it is important to treat every student as an individual, rather than bulk them all into the category of 'student' and delivering everyone the same tutorial style, despite it not suiting all of them. In terms of measuring progress, I would be happy to arrange practise questions of topics that we have covered for the students to try, and we could discuss their answers and also then measure their progress. I think enthusiasm and friendliness is important to encourage learning, as if the tutorials are boring, the student will not want to attend it, and therefore, will not want to learn.

Nicole has been an excellent tutor for my daughter, going through difficult-to-understand areas by doing questions together. Always enthusiastic and smiling.

Nicole is a warm, friendly tutor (Maths GCSE) who has been a great help in addressing problem areas in maths. She explains topics clearly and has been great at suggesting alternative methods to ensure the maths is clearly understood. Thank you!
