About me

I'm currently studying for a PhD in modern languages (French and Italian) at Durham University. I love anything French or Italian related- from road signs to medieval literature; I am mesmerised by it all and would truly love to pass this on to you! I love anything French or Italian related- from road signs to medieval literature; I am mesmerised by it all and would truly love to pass this on to you! I am patient, friendly and willing to put everything into my tutorials, and most of all I hope that we can have fun learning together! I have worked for Routes into Languages where I gave presentations, ran workshops and delivered language taster sessions in French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Latin to groups of young people of all different ages ranging from 8 to 18. I have also tutored Maths, Biology and French to classes whilst at sixth form and on a one-to-one basis. Can you help with applying to study languages at university? Yes! Absolutely! I understand how hard it is writing a personal statement and can offer lots of help and guidance. I have been at Durham for six years now, and am very familiar with the application process. I can help prepare for interviews that might be in French or Italian too. I have been through the process and applied for degrees both in the UK and abroad, and know exactly how stressful it is. You decide what we cover!

About my sessions

A lot can be achieved in 55 minutes! For languages we can do anything from grammar and vocabulary, to literature and film. Good grammatical knowledge is useful for every part of a language exam, so I like to go over all the rules until you are ready to explain it to anyone! We will make it enjoyable! I promise! I use many different methods (diagrams, mind maps, rhymes, lots of colours, and flash cards) and I can easily adapt the tutorials to using whichever method suits you best. We can learn...

We can learn vocabulary - specific exam topics and more generally - and I can advise on how to learn masses of words quickly and effectively. I taught myself A-level French a year early, so I know how to get there. We will practice questions and presentations and ensure that you can get all of those A* phrases and tenses in naturally, until you can explain it fearlessly to anyone- the wall and the dog included! I really hope that most of all you will enjoy yourself!

For Maths, understanding is key, so we will focus on that before heading out to look at exam questions. I have experience with OCR, Edexcel, AQA and WJEC so, I can advice you on what to look out for. If you have any questions, please send me a 'WebMail' or book a 'Meet the Tutor Session'(both accessible through this website). Remember to tell me your exam board and what you're struggling with- this can absolutely be something vague or something more specific. I really look forward to meeting you!

I would not hesitate to recommend Charlotte as a tutor. My daughter has had regular tutorials with her and over the year her grade has moved from a C to an A. Charlotte is patient and a good communicator
