About me

I am a 2nd year medical student at University of Leeds where the course is taught in the integrated style. I am taught medical science in lectures and I also have practical modules such as anatomy and clinical placements where I apply what I've learnt in the lectures to real life situations. This means I truly understand the science and how to apply my knowledge. As a result I can use different methods and examples from my experience to explain difficult concepts.

I love studying medicine because it is a perfect combination of science and interacting with people.I did a lot of work experience and volunteering beforehand to make sure it was what I wanted to do and so far the course has proven to be what I imagined it to be like and all the hard work was really worth it.I did this whilst fitting in work experience at hospitals and volunteering at an elderly centre. I also had to take the BMAT and UKCAT exams in my final year at school to apply for medical school. It was an extremely intense and at times stressful experience, however I managed to secure a place at medical school and I developed skills which enabled me to succeed. These include: picking up new concepts quickly, being efficient, time management and hitting the mark scheme points.

I am part of my universities waterpolo team and on 2 medical society committees which include Hockey and Medsoc.

About my sessions

I have tutored before as I worked at the Harrow International School during my gap year and I taught students from the age of 3-18. My teaching style varies depending on the age of the student, goal and type of exam.

During lessons I use diagrams and exam board specification target points to explain concepts. I integrate scientific explanation with relatable examples which I have picked up during my lectures and my own personal learning experience.

I will find past paper questions in order to practice exam technique and make sure that the student truly understands the topic. As I have had a lot of exam experience, I understand that simply understanding a topic doesn't necessarily mean you will reach the top marks. Exam technique and application of knowledge in unfamiliar situations is also extremely important and I am able to integrate teaching of the topic and those skills simultaneously to achieve the desired result.

I will measure progress by regular testing and I get students to try and explain topics to me as I know that being able to explain a concept successfully to another person means you really understand it.
