About me

I am passionate about Human Geography and Spanish (hence studying them!) as these subjects are extremely relevant to our ever-changing and dynamic world. As Spanish is the 3rd most spoken language worldwide, it is important for business, diplomatic relations and travel. Similarly, Human Geography explores the world’s biggest challenges such as climate change and thus, I think it is important to share my knowledge and revision expertise in this area.

Similarly, Human Geography explores the world’s biggest challenges such as climate change and thus, I think it is important to share my knowledge and revision expertise in this area.

I have perfected a number of revision techniques that have helped me to succeed in exams including colour-coded mind maps, annotated diagrams and flashcards which I would love to share.

It is well-known that students have to pick their path in life at a very young age, and so, I can relate to the feeling of nervousness about the future, the pressure of exam grades and choosing a course at university. My gap year was the best thing I have ever done because it prepared me for university in many non-academic ways, giving me experience of working and independence of travelling. My gap year also gave me the opportunity to self-teach myself A-level Spanish (which I had dropped at AS level) so that I could continue it at university in which I got a grade A.

Because I am completing a Level 5 TEFL course alongside my studies, I know the behind-the-scenes of teaching, lesson planning and engaging with students, especially being a student myself.

About my sessions

Firstly, I would greet the student and find out a bit about them in order to put them at ease. I will tell them about my own background and why I love the subject. What do they enjoy? What are they good at? What are their weaknesses? Is there anything that they would like to cover? Remind them that I am there to help them and there is no such thing as a silly question. I will outline the goals for the lesson and draft a plan of how the lesson time will be used beforehand.

I will explain the topic in a logical way by starting with a simple foundation and then building on it, for example with a grammar point. I will illustrate it with examples that are relatable and relevant to ensure that the student interacts as well. Interaction will help to make the lesson interesting and fun and I would not be afraid to do something practical like a song or a game for example when learning languages. I would measure progress and check understanding -perhaps through a small homework task. Then, I would recap at the beginning of the next lesson to see what they remember or have found out.

Measure progress, Check understanding – perhaps through homework. This could be a film review internet research. Recap at the beginning of the next lesson and see what they remember or have found out!

To encourage learning, I would praise the student to build their confidence, and vary the style of tutorial to prevent boredom through innovation and patience.
