About me

I am a first year maths and philosophy student at Oxford University, and I would love to use my vacation free time to help students increase their confidence in mathematics. I am available to tutor from the end of June until the end of September (perfect for some summer holiday sessions). I am available to tutor from the end of June until the end of September (perfect for some summer holiday sessions). I find the profound and wide reaching applications of maths inspiring, and I hope that by helping students become more confident they too might see the beauty and excitement that maths can hold. As well as this, maths is a crucial facilitating subject required (at some level) by most careers. I would like to help students achieve the mathematical qualifications they need to achieve their aspirations and have the freedom to pursue a variety of subjects. Outside of maths I am a classical singer, I was a choral scholar at King’s College London and a chorister at Canterbury Cathedral, I am currently a choral exhibitioner in the prestigious Queen’s College Choir. I am available to tutor during the Oxford vacations: all of December and early January, April holidays and over the summer.

About my sessions

First I will establish which areas merit the most attention, by speaking with the student and perhaps looking at a past paper they have completed (if applicable). Then I generally split a session into two halves (although of course I can tailor this split to the individual student). First I build up the ideas from the ground up, making sure the student understands each step. In this way we can identify exactly which step of understanding the student is struggling with and focus on this. Once...

Once we have built up the theory in this way I move on to examples. First I will talk the student through an example, then we will try one together, and then we complete more questions with me gradually reducing my input so, eventually, the student is completing the question on their own. I have found this method of gradually building up very beneficial to students confidence.
