This year I have started my PhD in Inorganic Electrochemistry, working on fuel cells and electrocatalyst design, having graduated with a 2:1 Honours degree in Chemistry in June, 2019. I have over 450 hours of lesson time on the MyTutor platform - at the time of writing - and have been tutoring outside of the platform for around 3 years. I have a full, enhanced DBS certificate and I have used this to work with MyTutor to provide additional support to schools for pupils at KS3, GCSE, A Level, and IB.

Outside of teaching, I fill a lot of my time reading up on different subjects including Astrophysics and Astronomy, Natural Selection, Quantum Mechanics and Neuroscience. I am a classical musician, having become the President of Queen's University's Choral and Singing Society late last year. After my PhD I hope to travel and gain experience around the world; right now I have an interest in studying / teaching in America, working in a postdoctoral research position.

About my sessions

My lessons are tailored to the student; everyone learns slightly differently and I aim to give everyone a lesson format that works for them. My lessons are tailored to the student; everyone learns slightly differently and I aim to give everyone a lesson format that works for them. Generally we work through new topics in the form of a mini-lecture, where we'll implement little exercises and examples to really cement the idea. Sometimes we'll look slightly ahead in the syllabus, meaning that when the pupil is in class on a new, tricky topic, they're not thrown off by a flurry of new and tricky concepts because they're all somewhat familiar by the time we've looked at them. This means that we're much less likely to become distracted and overwhelmed in class, bolstering school performance in addition to covering tricky past material in our lessons.

I try to keep solid contact with all pupils and parents; I think it's important to keep the parent / guardian in the loop just so they know what's been covered in lessons, how I think the pupil is getting along, and also so they can provide me with any constructive feedback for future lessons. If you have any questions or queries about my sessions, please don't hesitate to drop me a message and I'll answer as soon as possible. If you'd like to arrange a free video meeting regarding lessons, that's easily set up - just drop me a message on the MyTutor platform.

Scott is a great tutor because he is friendly, patient and makes his lessons fun so you don't notice that the hour is up! He also explains difficult concepts very clearly and makes sure that you understand everything before moving on. My results prove this as he helped me go from an E grade in Chemistry A level to a B grade.

Scott helped my 13 year old son who was struggling with a few concepts in chemistry. My son really enjoyed the lessons and was quickly able to understand the topics with Scott's help.
