About me

Hi, my name's Beth, I'm 20, and in my third year at St. Andrews where I study History. I'm very interested in more modern history, however I have studied everything from very early Roman Britain, to the Iranian Revolution, so I am more than willing to try my hand at helping out students with any range of historical problems. I have a keen interest in politics and charity. I'm head of social media and marketing for Women in Work, a St. Andrews based society which f...

Andrews based society which focuses on delivering careers based events for women throughout the university. I have spoken in the European Parliament on the issue of Youth Involvement in politics. I played Lacrosse throughout my time at school, and have continued that into university, as well as having a keen interest in Drama and Dance, which I have also been involved in since I was at primary school. I'd always find a way to help my prospective students to learn to love their subjects, and would provide them with extra learning resources to help them do so. I'm a fan of learning through videos and documentaries, as well as listening to podcasts rather than just sitting down and attempting to learn a whole load of text, as the further along in my studies I get, I realise how many people struggle to just sit down and engage with just words. My sister is dyslexic, so I also have an understanding of how to appreciate different ways of learning, and would do everything I could to help my students to engage with what they're doing.

About my sessions

I would always prepare for my lessons by making sure I knew what my students wanted to focus their next session, and then I'd think up some questions, which both they and I could go away and think about in order to stimulate discussion and learning. Dependent on level, I'd ask them to prepare a few essays or essay plan so we can discuss what they're doing right and what they're doing wrong when it comes to essay writing and exam technique.

I'd start of my lessons by addressing any questions that the student had initially about the work that had been set that week, and then I'd move on to discussing the questions that had been set and move on to the session from there. I'd go through it question by question and sort out any problems which arose along the way.
