About me

Hi! My name is Sparshita and I'm currently studying Physics at the University of Oxford specialising in Astrophysics and Particle Physics. I am studying on a 4-year integrated masters course and will be doing a masters this year.

It is quite cliched but it is 100% true that Physics and Mathematics is what governs the world we live in and that's what makes them so interesting to learn about. You learn how they work, you learn how the world works and that little bit of understanding is why I love my subject so much and I want to help others see how beautiful it is too!

Recently I have also tutored/ been part of a teaching course organised by the Oxford Physics department, mentoring 16-17 year olds for the Physics Aptitude Test (the entrance test required for physicists, engineers and material scientists) and have really learnt a lot about to approach teaching and have thoroughly enjoyed all the discussions and teaching sessions and would like to continue to do more. I also have had experience tutoring informally during the past few years, tutoring GCSE - A level students, particularly in Maths and Physics. I believe there are two parts to doing well in exams: firstly having a firm grasp of the topics but equally having good exam technique and those are the two areas I will focus on with my students.

About my sessions

In general, the structure of the sessions will depend very much on the needs of the student/ what the student wishes to talk about. With subjects like maths and physics, intuition and practice play very big roles. All sessions will therefore involve a discussion about the topics of confusion/interest or any specific questions and then lots and lots of practice. I will provide plenty of worked examples during the sessions which will be very much an interactive session where we talk through the...

I will provide plenty of worked examples during the sessions which will be very much an interactive session where we talk through the questions and work through them together and then will follow up with a few summary questions which the student can do in their own time and we can discuss in the following tutorial. We will also talk about the preferred structure of the tutorials before the official sessions start so that the sessions are completely catered to the student's level and requirements.

In terms of students who are hoping to take the Physics Aptitude Test (PAT), again I will aim to get through all aspects of the syllabus so that the student has a comprehensive set of notes on the topics in the syllabus as well as plenty of worked examples and question paper practice. I am also happy to discuss personal statements and recommend ways to make your application stronger.

Have been doing lesson since September and I feel really confident about Physics now. She is well prepared in advance and I can easily understand the hardest topics when she explains them. Also motivates me a lot :)
