I put too much pressure on myself during my A-Levels and my mental health suffered. By the end of year 12 I was depressed and anxious, losing the will to even try. It wasn't until I was able to find a balance between working hard and taking care of myself that I began to feel better and was able to achieve 3 A*s. I want to help you to deal with pressure rather than piling more onto you. By helping you manage stress and showing you what you can achieve, I want you to go into exams feeling confident!

This year I've been a brand manager for TeachFirst, an organisation tackling educational inequality by training teachers in disadvantaged areas. This has solidified my belief that every young person deserves a teacher who's on their side and believes in them. I'm not sure whether I'll go straight into secondary teaching when I graduate next year or to aim for a PHD to become a professor, but either way I want to help students to fulfill their potential no matter who they are.

About my sessions

I've found that a student focused approach is best for tutoring, and working 1-2-1 really facilitates that. Therefore, I'll start by asking you how you feel about the subject and what your worries are. We'll also go through your past work if you have it, so I can see what your writing style is like and what common feedback you're getting. We'll then work together to create a plan for what you can improve on and how I can help you do that between now and exams. This will ty...

This will typically focus on one point each week- e.g. evaluating quotations, discussing specific characters/themes, and having a good structure. My teaching style is interactive- I want it to be rewarding for both of us, so it will involve us brainstorming ideas together, bullet-point essay plans as well as you writing paragraphs that I can read and give you feedback on. Progress is measured primarily on how you feel you're doing, though of course the work you produce in my lessons and at school is an important indicator too.
