About me

Hello, I am currently studying Biochemistry at the University of Birmingham. I have always had a strong interest in Biology and previously wanted to pursue a career in medicine. However, I realised after I sat my GCSEs that I didn't necessarily want to be a doctor, but was extremely interested in the applications of science to real-world problems. I plan to pursue a career in research once I graduate, especially in the field of genetics and gene technology. The main thing that I enjoyed a...

However, I realised after I sat my GCSEs that I didn't necessarily want to be a doctor, but was extremely interested in the applications of science to real-world problems. I plan to pursue a career in research once I graduate, especially in the field of genetics and gene technology. The main thing that I enjoyed about sitting exams was the feeling in the exam when you are releasing all of the information that you have spent the past year learning, and the happy feeling you get when you leave the exam hall knowing that you unloaded all of that information. I am a member of my university's Gospel Choir, Creative Music Ensemble and BioSoc (the society for my department). I have a large passion for anything musical, be it singing, playing instruments, listening to music or musicals! I hope to help my students enjoy their studies, and not just see it as a means to an end.

About my sessions

My Online Lessons will mainly be spoken and written, as I think that having a clear explanation of things helps people to grasp concepts more easily. I will also draw diagrams if necessary, especially for subjects like Biology and Chemistry. I will make sure that I understand the syllabus for the subject and its specific exam board, and also relate it to real-world situations, as I believe that that method will make it more likely for someone to remember what they have learned. At the start o...

At the start of my lessons I will go over what we will be covering for that session with input from my student, and then I will gradually work through key concepts for their chosen topic. We will then move onto questions and how to answer them, paying specific attention to exam technique. I will always leave time at the end for a review, as I want to make sure that my student understands what has been taught in our session, and there will always be time for any questions that the student may have. Before we start, I will ask the student to make a list of things that they would like to improve on, and at the end of each session and all of our lessons, we will go through that list to ensure that they have met any academic and/or personal goals that they set out to complete. I will try and make our sessions as engaging and fun as possible, as I remember from my school days that there is nothing worse than a boring teacher!
