Degree: History (and open unit in maths) (Bachelors) - Bristol University
Having initially tutored my younger sister for her GCSE Maths, I decided teaching others was something I very much enjoyed. Following this, I had the pleasure of helping to run a GSCE Maths clinic at my senior school which taught me a lot about how to communicate ideas and theories to younger pupils. MyTutorWeb now seems the best platform through which to continue tutoring those who struggle with things I can shed some light on.
I will tailor each live session to the specific needs of the pupil, whether that means devoting a whole session to an in-depth focus on one particular issue, or providing a more general revision session. In Maths I will tend to explain the theory behind a concept before working through some applied examples or past papers with the pupil, whereas in History sessions I will focus more on teaching the technique of answering both normal essay questions, and source-based questions.
Both Mathematic and History are of great interest to me. While rules and formulae form the basis of most maths issues, I believe the ability to sometimes take a step back and think a little outside the box is crucial in attaining the highest marks in exams. Similarly, although it is important in History to know a good deal of major events, and key themes, to achieve success in 13+ and GCSE examinations, knowing how and when to deploy this information is vital. Furthermore, at all levels, knowing the technique behind structuring a History answer is very important to securing top marks. My own experience has taught me that all these skills are much more easily coached and nurtured via one-on-one tuition than in a classroom full of people.
My own studies have provided me with the necessary skills to achieve the highest marks in examinations, and I am very much looking forward to passing this knowledge on to my fellow students in any way that I can.
