(Although these topics are the ones I have done and have experience in, I will gladly take on other texts/topics that I may have studied in my own time or at university - please let me know your exam board and what specifically you need help with.)

Notably, I started up a blog for AS/A-Level English Literature when I was in Year 12 that gained over 500,000 views. It became a roaring success - with many question and answer sessions going on, between us and the student body.

The blog's web address for anyone interested is www.blogasenglish.wordpress.com (the blog has since been taken over by 3 new students).

With English and History especially, there are such a wide variety of texts and time periods that students can be tested on, depending on their exam board and no doubt will some be different to what I studied at the same level. To ensure effective tutoring, I will make to know which text/period that individual student needs help with so that I am able to give them the information they require. Furthermore, with exam boards being so varied in their approach, this will be key information to gain as well.

I will structure my lesson as such:

1. Start off by asking the student what they are struggling with.

2. Then I will move on to a content refresher, making sure they have key evidence and facts before they begin to structure answers.

3. I will give them some strategies on how to approach questions, always reiterating exam learning objectives.

5. Ask them to complete a piece of work (depending on session schedule).

6. Any further questions?

If I can see them applying the techniques I have given them, then it is clear they have been listening and progressing.

Personally, I don't believe there is any harm in telling a student they have done well and letting them feel accomplished in their progress. Of course, there is always room for improvement and therefore alongside the 'What Went Well' (WWW), I will aim to give an 'Even Better If' (EBI) for them to work on next time.
