About me

I am currently a medical student studying at the University of Bristol. Before coming here, I studied at Boston University (USA), where I got my bachelor of science in human physiology. Although I have always dreamt of becoming a doctor, it is through the past 4 years that I've truly come to understand what it means to be a doctor through my range of experiences at university. Majoring in human physiology, minoring in public health whilst taking the pre-medical track at university has persistently pushed me past new limits and challenged me at new extremes; through my internships, shadowing and volunteer work, I discovered more about the art of medicine and the key qualities that make an outstanding doctor. It is the intrinsic reward of helping others, solving challenges, diagnosing and recommending treatments that motivates me to strive academically and continue to push my abilities past limits.

I have had a lot of tutoring/teaching experience in the past and have always been passionate about teaching; although challenging at times, it is an extremely rewarding job. I understand that studying and doing homework isn’t always fun, but knowing you’ve fully understood a concept that you didn’t before is one of the greatest feelings you can have. I am a patient, well organized and creative individual, and I am so excited to share my knowledge and experience with other students, and hopefully inspire others to love learning as much as I do.

About my sessions

An important lesson I have learned throughout the years is that different individuals learn more effectively using different methods. The way you approach a specific problem is often not the same for another person. Therefore, I believe that tutor sessions should always be individualized so that they are appropriate to the students I teach. An important lesson I have learned throughout the years is that different individuals learn more effectively using different methods. The way you approach a specific problem is often not the same for another person. Therefore, I believe that tutor sessions should always be individualized so that they are appropriate to the students I teach. Varying teaching methods, and finding new and creative ways to teach is a big part of the job. Therefore, I believe that getting to know the student you are tutoring is vital, and being able to adapt is a very important skill to have. After meeting a new student, I will prepare in advance before the session and try to tailor the lesson as well as I can to the student I am teaching. In the end, I will encourage any feedback from the student so that I know whether the method I used was appropriate or if any changes should be made in the future.

I think setting realistic expectations and goals is a good way to monitor progress and improvement. Small achievements should be celebrated to encourage learning. I also think that giving positive feedback is very important and can be very motivating. Since I have been through all of this before, I think drawing from my own experiences will show students that although some things may seem quite daunting at the time, success is possible. It just takes some time and it takes work and dedication.

Julia has made a tremendous positive impact on our sons Manadrin ability. He's able to stay one step ahead in the classroom as he has covered many of the upcoming topics already, with Julia. She's a fantastic tutor. Highly recommend her.
