Hi, I’m Emily! I’m a fourth year medical student. I have just spent a year doing an intercalated BSc (Med Sci) in clinical medicine. This focused particularly on psychological medicine and clinical research, but also included modules in lab/research techniques, biochemistry and statistics.

I’ve always been interested in biology, and I love the opportunity that medicine gives me to explore the practical applications of anatomy and physiology in the context of health and disease. I enjoy being able to bring together various aspect of my knowledge to solve problems when presented with a patient, and find it fascinating when I can relate scientific theory to real life.

Whilst my degree focuses on the applications of human biology, pathology and biochemistry, my A-level biology course covered a significant amount of plant biology and ecology, and I have covered various aspects of basic biological sciences in my intercalated degree

I know first-hand how stressful the long university application process can be and would be very happy to help any prospective university student, medical or otherwise, with any aspect of their application.

I enjoy teaching, and have worked as a watersports instructor and summer camp counsellor for the past few summers.

About my sessions

My approach as a tutor is student-centred. We all like to learn differently, and this can often be problematic in the classroom. My tutorials will give students the opportunity to learn in a way that maximises their potential and allows them to focus on areas they find particularly challenging.

I aim to make tutorials as interactive as possible, using student input to tailor my tutoring to their needs. I will encourage them to ask questions and bring up areas that need clarification.

Whilst the structure of each tutorial is entirely flexible, I will generally begin by establishing current knowledge of the topic before spending time talking through it, ensuring the student really gets to grips with the key concepts. Then, we will work through some practice exam questions together to consolidate the information. This gives me the opportunity to check understanding and give structured feedback.

I strive to deliver extremely high quality lessons for my students, and so put a significant amount of time and effort into planning lessons and preparing notes and materials. I also have a busy schedule and a demanding course load and

therefore have a couple booking and cancellation policies for online lessons:

All lessons should be both booked and paid for a minimum of 24 hours in advance.

For cancellations, please give at least 24 hours notice in order to get a refund.
