Hello, I’m Will and I study a Masters of Engineering degree in Materials Science at Oxford University. I really enjoy my subject because of its unique and inter-disciplinary approach to solving some of the world’s largest problems. I hope to one day go into nuclear engineering. I'm very confident and sociable, I have always enjoyed tutoring both online and volunteering at school.

What to expect

I like to have a good rapport with my students so that they feel relaxed and comfortable, I feel that this is constructive for the overall learning experience. I am very encouraging with my feedback and am not afraid to push students to the limits of their capability because I find this beneficial when I am being taught by others. The tutorial is focused around you, and the goals that you have set out for yourself. I realise that for each topic it is both understanding and confidence which determine your results.

What next?

If you have any questions, please book a 'meet the tutor' free session where we can chat and determine what I can help you with. Please remember to include what subject you would like tutoring in, as well as the board of exams.

Second step - Improving your understanding

We now know what gaps in your understanding we need focus on, I will interactively explain to you the topic areas that you are weaker on using techniques best suited to you. I realise that a firm understanding of fundamental concepts is the foundation you need in order to attempt more complex ideas. Conversely, sometimes it is necessary for me to take you beyond the specification in order to consolidate your understanding.

Third step - Exam confidence

It is all very well understanding the topics, but in order to access higher grades it is essential for you to understand how best to present yourself to the examiner. I will give step-by-step feedback and encouragement to you as you attempt past paper questions, I will also set questions as homework between sessions which I will mark your answers for and give verbal feedback.
