Who are the Olympic gods?

There are 12 Olympic gods, each with their own personality and characteristics. They were worshipped in accordance with these personality traits and often displayed very human characteristics. Zeus - ruler of the gods - in charge of the sky, lightning, thunder, law and order Hera - Zeus' wife - goddess of family and marriage Poseidon - god of the sea, earthquakes and weather Demeter - goddess of fertility and agriculture, nature and the seasons Athena - wisdom and war strategy Apollo - god of light, poetry, music and prophecy Artemis - goddess of the hunt, chastity, archery and animals Ares - god of warfare and violence Aphrodite - goddess of love and beauty Hephaestus - lame god of blacksmiths and craftsmen Hermes - messenger god of communication Hestia - goddess of the hearth, family and domesticity Dionysus - god of wine, ecstasy and celebrations
