How does the theory of evolution due to natural selection explain the extinction of other species?

As the environment changes, some species with disadvantageous alleles will fail to compete successfully for food, shelter or a mater. This means that they are less likely to survive to reproduce, so these alleles will eventually cease to arise in that specific arrangement.
