What is feminist literary criticism?

At A level you're usually expected to make reference to some levels of literary criticism in your writing- literary criticism is when concepts and ideas belonging to particular schools of thought and academia are applied to a literary text, and its qualities critiqued around this subject. The various issues brought to light through feminist schools, with the value of gender equality at its core, is what is applied to feminist literary criticism.

This form of criticism is concerned with factors such as asking relevant feminist questions of older texts, as well as helping to pave the way for female voices in literature. It's also largely concerned with deconstructing the canon- a body of work generally considered to be the definitive "greats" of literature, in which women are seen to be underrepresented.
