How much should I write about my extracurriculars?

I personally think a personal statement has three core ingredients: academia, supracurriculars and extracurriculars. In a medical school personal statement, there's also a fourth step: reflection. You have to weigh out your personal statement to be approximately 50% reflection of the events that you've done. Academia, such as your grades and school subjects, is already listed in your application so they only need a brief refresh in your statement. The main bulk of a medical school statement needs to be explaining and reflecting upon supracurriculars. These are out-of-school activities that directly link to medicine. Work experience, volunteering, first aid etc. You have to be able to show the admissions board that you have gone above and beyond in your attempt to be a good medic. Extracurriculars are the next best thing. You need to show who you are as an all-round person. What do you do to relax? What other skills do you have that might be useful? Are you a leader? Are you creative? Show the admissions board what else you have to offer but always reflect back on how it's helpful to you as a student - whether it's helpful because it allows you to unwind or whether it gives you confidence in order to give presentations alone.
