What is the difference between smooth and striated muscle?

While both smooth and striated muscle are found in the human body, smooth muscle is found in the viscera (internal organs), and striated muscle is attached to the skeleton. Striated muscle is composed of muscle fibers, made up of thick and thin filaments, but smooth muscle has interconnected cells to form layers. Skeletal muscle is involved in voluntary movement, whereas smooth muscle serves for involuntary movement inside the body.
