How do I structure my answer?

In English, the best way to gain marks is to use the P.E.E.L method. This stands for point, evidence, explanation, link.

Start off by making your original point by picking out a literary technique found in the text e.g. repetition of the 's' sound- sibilance. This is the P.

The first E stands for evidence. This is in the form of a quotation that you will pull out from the text, e.g. 'slithering snakes'.

The second E wants you to explain your point. Why is this literary technique effective? What impact does it have on the reader? E.g. The repetition of the soft 's' sound creates an almost onomatopoeiac sound in the reader's mind, allowing them to hear the smooth, sliminess of the snakes. It also mirrors the hissing sound created by snakes themselves.

Finally, if you can, link it back to the question.
