Describe what your piece of practical work was about and explain your role and any design or technical elements. (10 marks)

My performance was selected excerpts from "Accrington Pals", and I was involved as an actor. The piece is a naturalistic drama set during WWI in Accrington, Lancashire. We had a black box set, to which we added "washing lines" to create the effect of back gardens, and we added wicker baskets onto stage blocks to create a market stall for other scenes. This formed the backbone of our set, along with two period appropriate chairs and a hand cart. We kept the set minimalistic to make transitions easier, and most of our props and set came from members of the group or the school's drama cupboard. The piece was aimed at a wide target audience, and I believe that it could be appreciated by people of any age or background. It had comedic elements but was largely serious in tone. We used poems, spoken by the actors, to make the scene transitions run more smoothly, and I think it worked extremely well.
