Explain the difference between global warming and the greenhouse effect.

Global warming is the long term change in climate that has happened cyclically throughout earth's history, but is currently happening at a much faster rate than normal. This is usually associated with the greenhouse effect, which is a natural phenomenon that allows the Earth to trap heat. This is a carefully controlled mechanism that involves greenhouse gases, but due to an increase gases such as carbon dioxide by man-made activities such as burning fossil fuels, the atmosphere traps more heat, which causes an increase in temperature. In this way, the greenhouse effect increases the rate of global warming.
