In what context would you use the present tense in French?

Present tense in French is used in different situations:

1) immediate action: the action is taking place while you are speaking

2) habits and facts: for facts that are always true and for repeated actions

3) extended action: for an action that has started and continues (no limits in time)

ex: Il neige depuis une semaine.

  1. Near future: for an action that has not been accomplished yet

ex: Je finis les cours jeudi prochain.

5) Hypothesis
