Describe the reflex arc from the point of a receptor detecting a stimulus.

Receptor triggers a sensory neuron to fire an electrical impulse. Synapses with relay neuron which fires an electrical impulse. Synapses with motor neuron which fires an electrical impulse. The motor neuron stimulates the effector to carry out a response.Transmission is electrical across neurons and chemical across synapses. The brain is not involved in a reflex arc. This is for rapid transmission of information to take the body away from potential danger.
