How are root hair cells specialised to carry out their function?

The role of root hair cells is to absorb water and mineral ions. Therefore they have a large surface area to increase the rate of water absorption. Root hair cells also have a large amount of mitochondria which provide more energy for the active transport of mineral ions. These two specialisations allow for more efficient uptake.
