Due to the fact that the two 'x' in the question do not have a power (Are not squared or cubed) they can be added. Thus:4x = 12Then we want to find 'x' so we isolate it in the equation. To do this, we need to divide both sides by 4:(4x)/4 = 12/4Therefore, x = 3
