How do I write an introduction for my essay?

A good introduction establishes your main line of argument and links it directly to the essay question. You also can outline one or two of your main points without going into too much detail, as this is what will make up the body of your essay. Yet it is very important that your introduction clearly shows the examiner why your essay is relevant to the question. One way to ensure this is to use the wording of the question. For example, if the question is "Explore the theme of loneliness in 'Of Mice and Men'", using the word "loneliness" in your introduction will make sure you stay focused.
