How do you know when to use savoir or connaitre?

Savoir is used when you know a fact, or how to do something eg I know how to get there, I know that he arrived. It is followed by que/qui/comment... (that, who etc) eg Je sais qu'il est arriveConnaitre is used when you know a person, place or thing eg I know him, I know this town. It is followed by a noun. Je connais Sarah.
