When do I use the Konjuntiv I?

The Konjunktiv I is primarily used for indirect speech. This is when the narrator/speaker communicates what someone has said eg "He said that he was going swimming" "Er sagte, dass er schwimme".It can also be used, as in English, for third-person commands eg "Long live the King" "Es lebe der König"
