What is 2 1/5 + 1 3/4

First simplify both sides:2 1/5 = 11/5 1 3/4 = 7/4Then find common denominator by multiplying denominators:4/5 = 20Times denominators by opposite denominator (do to top and bottom):7/4 = 35/20 13/5 = 44/20Then add the numerators together and leave the denominator as it is:35/20 + 44/20 = 79/20

Solve algebraically the simultaneous equations x^2 + y^2 = 25, y – 3x = 13

How do you go about rearranging equations where the required subject appears on both sides? Such as making x the subject of 7x + a = 3x + b.

Complete the square on this equation: 2x^2 + 20x + 15 = 0.

If x^2 = 16, why isn't the answer just x = 4?
