What are the neuron types involved in a simple reflex arc?

  1. sensory neurons2) relay neurons3) motor neuronsA receptor detects the stimulus. An impulse is sent along the sensory neuron to the CNS (spinal cord). It reaches a synapse where electrical energy is used to release chemicals. The chemicals diffuse across the synapse to trigger an impulse in a relay neuron. There is another synapse between the relay neuron and the motor neuron. The motor neuron is connected to the effector organ - it stimulates the organ to produce a response, e.g. muscle contraction.
