How should I write about writer's techniques in a way that gets me marks?

Being able to identify techniques is great, but always remember that your focus needs to be on the meaning behind them. Shakespeare did not simply decide to use a metaphor, for example. You'll pick up marks by explaining why the use of metaphor is effective and conveys meaning.
