When to use ser and when to use estar?

Ser and etsar are both ways of saying 'to be', but are used in different situations. There is an easy way to remember when to use which verb:

SER - DOCTOR
Descriptions
Occupations
Characteristics
Time/date
Origin (nationality)
Relationships (and possessions)

Ser is also used when something is done and for something that is permanent.

Condition (temporary)
Emotions/feelings
