Solve the simultaneous equations: 3x + y =11; 2x + y = 8

subtract one from the other to eliminate y: 3x+y=11; 2x+y=8 --> x=3 substitute value of x back in and solve for y : 3(3)+y=11; 9+y=11; --> y=2
