How do you simplify (3x-3)/(x-1)?

The important thing here is to try and find the bottom bracket in the top bracket ie the numerator

Notice that (3x-3) can be divided by 3 and therefore (3x-3) can be written as 3 multiplied by (x-1)

Notice that (x-1) is common on both the top and the bottom and therefore can be cancelled

This leaves just 3 which is the answer
