Expand and simplify (6x+9)(4x+7)

  • Using the "crabs claw" or "parrot beak" method, draw lines linking the two brackets (demonstrated on whiteboard)

  • 6x x 4x = 24x2

  • 6x x 7 = 42x

  • 9 x 4x = 36x

  • 9 x 7 = 63

Answer = 24x+ 42x + 36x +63

= 24x+ 78x + 63
