what does a value shared in the ratio 2:3 mean?

this means that there are 5 parts to share out altogether. (2+3=5) So you take the value you wish to share and divide it by 5. once you've divided the value by five, to share in the ratio 2:3 simply means to multiply the single part you formed; by first 2 (for the left hand side of the ratio) and then multiply the single 5th by 3 (for the right hand side of the ratio). you have succesfully split a value in the ratio 2:3.
