How do I structure an essay about a character?

First, it would be helpful to make a brief plan (10 minutes), that outlines your points (4 or 5 points). Things to think about are narrative style, dialogue, themes, motifs, character traits, etc. Then pick out details (short quotes) from the text that clearly highlight each point. When writing each paragraph, try to expand on each point - first state your point, e.g. since -character X- is the narrator, as a reader we feel sympathy for her. Then use the quote(s) to illustrate this observation clearly.
