70% of 140 can be split up into 50% of 140 and 2 lots of 10% of 140. 50% of 140 is the same as 140 divided by 2, which equals 70. 10% of 140 is the same as 140 divided by 10, which gives 14. Therefore 70 + 14 + 14 = 98. So finally 70% of 140 = 98
