Given that x : y = 7 : 4 and x + y = 88, calculate x - y.

From x : y = 7 : 4 work out an expression for x: x = y (7/4) and substitute into x + y = 88: y(7/4 + 1) = 88y( 11/4) = 88 y = 88 (4/11) = 8 x 4 = 24substitute this into x + y = 88 to get x = 88 - 24 = 64.
x - y = 64 - 24 = 40.

Solve (x/4)-(2x/x+2) = 1. Give your solutions to 2 decimal places. You must show your working.

Solve the simultaneous equations y = x^2 +3x and y = x+8

There are two points 'A' and 'B' on a graph, their coordinates are (0,1) and (10,6) respectively. 1)Find the equation of the line that runs through both of these points.2)Find the equation of a line perpendicular to this through point 'B'.
