-Pathetic fallacy - the weather foreshadows events in the future, for example people getting killed after storms.-Piggy's glasses being broken symbolise a departure from society, and also foreshadows his death.-Patriotism - when they are rescued the men from the navy say that British boys should not act this way.-Imagery of beast - all the boys describe it as something different, they give it physical features, and this is them trying to justify their actions-The island is a microcosm for society at the time, the powerful figures represent political leaders. e.g. Jack could be seen as a dictator, who uses fear to manipulate the younger boys.
