what happens to the respiratory system when you breathe out?

When you exhale, the intercostal muscles relax. The diaphragm also relaxes and the ribs move inwards and downward. There is a decreased volume of the chest so therefore the pressure increases in the lungs. Due to the increased pressure the air is forced out and you exhale. Simply meaning you breathe out.
