Solve x^2 - 7x + 10 = 0

First factorise: (x - 2)(x - 5) = 0

Then either: x - 2 = 0   so x = 2

            or   x - 5 = 0   so x = 5

Why do the denominators have to be equal when adding fractions, but not when multiplying them?

Solve the simultaneous equations: 3x+2y=22, x=y-1

Factorise 3x^3y^2-6x^2y+9xy

Solve (6x-2)/4 - (3x+3)/3 = (1-x)/3. (4 marks)
