Differentiate with respect to x: y = ln(x^2+4*x+2).

Let u = x 2 +4x+2 so y = ln(u). Then dy/du = 1/u and du/dx = 2x+4. Using the chain rule we have: dy/dx = (dy/du)*(du/dx) = (1/u)*(2x+4) = (2x+4)/(x 2 +4x+2).

Prove that sec^2(θ) + cosec^2(θ) = sec^2(θ) * cosec^2(θ)

These problems can be tricky as they use unfamiliar trigonometric functions such as secant and cosecant. It is much easier to approach these problems by replacing these trigonometric functions with more fami...

Two immobile point charges Q1 and Q2 of values +q and +3q respectively are some distance apart. Q3, with value +2q is placed between them and does not move. What is the ratio of the distance between Q3 and Q2 to the distance between Q1 and Q3?

As Q 3 remains stationary, it is clear that it is not accelerating. Thus we can deduce from Newton's second law that there is no resultant force acting upon the charge. However there are still electrostatic ...

Explain what the CPI is and how it’s used to measure inflation.

Inflation is a continuous or persistent rise in the price level, or can be seen a fall in the value of money (if bread goes from costing £1 a loaf to £1.10, it means £1 becomes less valuable with the increas...
