What is the work done on a 5kg mass being lifted 10m vertically?

Work done = Force x Displacement. The force on the 5kg mass will be 5xg (g=acceleration due to gravity). The displacement is 10m. So the work done will be 50xg or around 475j.

David left his basketball outside overnight. At 1am the volume of air within the ball was 1.2m^3 and the outdoor temperature was 5 degrees Celsius. At 3am the temperature was -7 degrees Celsius. What is the volume of air inside the ball at 3am?

For this question we solve it using Charles’ Law. Charles’ law states that the product of volume and temperature gives a constant value. This is illustrated by VT=C. This means that volume and temperature ar...

A jug containing 0.250 kg of liquid is put into a refrigerator. Its temperature decreased from 20°C to 15°C. The amount of energy transferred from the liquid was 5,250 J. Calculate the specific heat capacity of the liquid.

specific heat capacity = change in energy ÷ (mass × change in temperature) [1]= 5,250 ÷ (0.250 × 5) [1]= 4,200 J/kg°C [1]
