How do I expand double brackets?

Use the moon method.

E.g. (x+1)(x+2)

  1. multiply x with x

  2. multiply x with 2

  3. mutiply 1 with x

  4. multiply 1 with 2

If you draw this out it will look like a moon shape.

  1. now put the like terms together

Find the equation of the straight line that is tangent to the curve 2x^2 - 5x - 3 =0 when x = 3.

Write the equation x^2 + 6x - 40 = 0 in the form (x + a)^2 - b = 0 and then solve for x

Simplify fully 3/(2x + 12) - (x - 15)/(x^2 - 2x - 48)

(2x + 3)/(x-4) - (2x - 8)/(2x + 1) = 1
