What are the stages in the conduction of a cardiac impulse?

  1. The heart is myogenic which means it generates its own electrical impulse - this originates from the sinoatrial node in the right atrium. 2. The impulse from the SA node passes through the right and left atrium walls to the AV node causing both atria to contract - atrial systole. 3. The AV node conducts the impulse down through the bundle of HIS and down through the left and right bundle branches to the apex of the heart. 4. The impulse then travels up and around the walls of the ventricle via the purkinje fibres - causing both ventricles to contract/ventricular systole. 5. The cycle then repeats.
