How do you differentiate?

for example 3x2+2x+1 differentiated? axdifferentiates to (an)xn-1 therefore 3x2 goes to 6x  2x goes to 2 and 1 goes to 0 so the final answer is = 6x + 2

Water is flowing into a rightcircular cone at the rate r (volume of water per unit time). The cone has radius a, altitude b and the vertex or "tip" is pointing downwards. Find the rate at which the surface is rising when the depth of the water is y.

The quadratic equation 2x^2 + 8x + 1 = 0 has roots a and b. Write down the value of a + b, a*b and a^2 + b^2.

give the coordinates of the stationary points of the curve y = x^4 - 4x^3 + 27 and state with reason if they are minumum, maximum, or points of inflection.
